Peter Fort, M.D

 
Medical Director

Dr. Peter Fort is the medical director of Sarasota's Sleepcare Diagnostics. He received his Medical degree from George Washington University in 1991. He then completed his internal Medicine Residency at the USAF Wilford Medical Center in San Antonio and became Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 1994. He stayed at Wilford Hall Medical Center to complete his Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Medicine Fellowship in 1996 at which time he became board certified in Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Medicine. He also gained Fellowship status with the American College of Chest Physicians and American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

After Fellowship, between 1996 and 2000, Dr. Fort served in the military as Chief of Respiratory Therapy at Darnall Army Community Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas. During this time he implemented and was Medical Director of the hospital's first Sleep Disorders Center. He also served as a member of the USAF Critical Care Aeromedical Transport Team. Dr. Fort collaborated with the Veterans Administration and Harvard Medical School in studying sleep disorders among gulf war veterans and published research in advanced mechanical ventilation for adults in respiratory failure.

Upon his arrival to civilian medical practice, Dr. Fort helped upgrade and develop the sleep centers at Blake Medical Center and Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida. In 2002 he began his own solo practice creating Premier Sleep Disorders Center which was later changed to University Sleep Specialists and which achieved accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in 2007. Currently, Dr. Fort resides in Sarasota/Bradenton area with his wife Cynthia Eaton, M.D., who has an OB/GYN practice in Bradenton. They have two sons. Dr. Fort enjoys running, skiing and coaching soccer. He holds an Advanced National coaching diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
