Patient
Education Center
“High Touch, not High Tech” Approach to
Treatment
Your physician will discuss the results of
your sleep study with you as well as treatment recommendations.
If your treatment includes the use of therapeutic devices, a
specialist from our Patient Education and Treatment Center will be a
great resource to you. A full-time staff of specialists from our
on-site, durable medical equipment (DME) sister company is
responsible for patient education. Our unique follow-up program also
includes 24-hour availability to our specialists.
Explanation of Your Treatment Plan
When you meet with one of our specialists,
he or she will explain your diagnosed sleep disorder and treatment
plan as well as answer any questions you may have.
Your compliance with the prescribed therapy will determine your
success. That is why our specialists are committed to helping you
understand the benefits of using your prescribed therapy, the proper
use and operation of your therapeutic device and how it can help
improve your life on a daily basis.
Hands-on Practice
Our specialist will train and educate you
on how to use your therapeutic equipment and accessories. The
equipment will consist of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)
unit or bi-level positive airway pressure (BiPAP) unit, a
humidification system, and accessories such as a mask, head gear and
hose. The DME specialist will explain and demonstrate how to
properly operate, use, clean and maintain your prescribed
therapeutic device.
Next, you will practice proper use and operation of your
equipment under our supervision to ensure that you are comfortable
with equipment set-up and use.
Your specialist will explain other issues related to information
you need to know, such as: how we identify the appropriate settings
on the machines, type of filter to use, power requirements, safety
issues, when and who to call for replacement equipment parts and how
to use the machine when traveling. He or she also will walk you
through the equipment manual and refer you to helpful information
that you might find useful once you are home.
Comprehensive Follow-up Program
Sleepcare Diagnostics is committed to
helping patients be successful with treatment. As part of our unique
follow-up program, one of our pecialists will make an initial
contact with you within 24-48 hours of your first night using the
equipment. The specialist can help you troubleshoot any problems
over the phone if necessary. More follow-up calls will be made
during this first critical month.
Based on the information gathered during these phone calls, you
may be advanced to the next follow-up call frequency or kept at the
current level until successful compliance is reached. This method
allows us to successfully evaluate patient success, and to determine
if additional training is necessary.
Long-term Success
Our specialists will continue to follow up
with you on a long-term basis – at not cost to you or your insurance
company. We want to be sure you continue to be compliant with
treatment and that you benefit from your therapy. These periodic
calls are also made to determine your equipment and supply status
and equipment replacement or repair needs. |
